Is there a reason that all of this money doesn't go to American Journalism Project? A lot of the issues you raise may be less of an issue if they trusted that entity, which has essentially the same mission and is farther along in building process.
First, you should know that I do some consulting for AJP.
That said, I do agree there is a lot of overlap in aims, which is one big reason I am glad Press Forward is largely foregoing having its own staff.
It's true that Press Forward has said it will work also with for-profits (which AJP does not), and, I gather, will not insist on free access to news (which AJP does).
But I do hope that Press Forward and its funders will meaningfully support AJP and its grantees, and I would expect that they eventually will.
Thanks for raising these important points and questions, Dick.
Brilliant in nailing down some of the big questions about Press Forward. Down with the “Trust Me” school of philanthropy.
Isn't Gates one of the biggest phrphilanthropic funders? Of they accept money from him, the rot starts there.
The Canadian organization is now to me; sad that the US folks didn't follow through on your plainly sensical suggestion.

Thanks for this.

Thanks for your reply, but I can't hit "Like" since it sounds like the wealthy arranging the deck chairs to suit on the proverbial sinking ship.
