Thanks for all of these, and they will all be considered. But since we will be making no more than four donations, I would ask that people confine themselves to no more than four nominations. And one is fine.
I nominate Harvey World Herald (hyperlocal), Public Health Watch (regional) and Journalism Refugees Education Fund (supporting education pathways for exiled journalists and media workers). Proud to be a part of this peer-to-peer effort as a paid subscriber. Thanks for creating the opportunity to pitch in and learn more about so many stellar newsrooms, info projects and adjacent orgs!
I'd like to nominate The Eastsider, a hyper-local news outlet covering the Eastside neighborhoods of Los Angeles. Publisher Jesus Sanchez has created a 5X/week digital publication that reaches thousands living within the shadow of downtown but far outside its traditional power center.
PBS Newshour, Center for Investigative Reporting, Pollen Project, The Marshall Project, Mission Local, Local Matters, Pollen Initiative, San Quentin Film Festival, The Texas Tribune, The Texas Observer, The 51st, The Middle with Jeremy Hobson, Spotlight DC
Now that I have had a chance to tale a quick look at all of these, two quick points: 1) Did you mean both the Pollen Project amd the Pollen Initiative? The former is a UK entity, and doesn't seem to be a 501(c)(3), which nominees need to be. Also, I am going to exclude the San Quentin Film Festival, as it doesn't seem to me to be journalistic, which is the category here. Happy to discuss.

Nomination- Our Times, the legacy Black owned newspaper in Evansville, IN. Launched in 1983, the organization was restructured in 2023. Our Times is a civic organization first, a local news outlet second. The journalism exists to serve the needs of the community. A recipient of the first round of Press Forward funding and funding from the Lumina Foundation, Our Times new direction is gaining support within our community. They leveraged a partnership with Evansville NewsLab to conduct a local assessment funded by Listening Post Collective. From that, a Documenters-type program of citizen journalism has completed a successful pilot and is now being scaled up to add accountability of local government.
I love your thought about the Fourth, especially what you said about Adams, Jefferson and the evidence of a higher power. Also, thank you for your transparency in the main part of your post. There are so many great writers on Substack, so much worthy content that I end up reading only some posts and deleting the rest or saving them for another time that rarely comes. That says nothing about the worthiness of the posts I delete, just that there are other things to do. Thank you for your work.
I love that the funds raised will go to small place that by and large I have never heard of.
Nominations: Buckeye Flame, Athens Independent, Planeta Venus, Conecta Arizona, 100 Days in Appalachia, Catchlight, CivicLex, News is Out, Sioux Falls Simplified, Ethiopique
My two cents would be for the funds to not to go to any intermediaries, but directly to newsrooms so they can spend it on what they need!

I'm nominating The Center for Investigative Reporting, Report Local, The Current, and the Maine Monitor.
Thanks so much. To which Current are you referring?
Thanks, and I was referring to the great local newsroom based in Savannah, Georgia.
I'd like to nominate The Intercept, Jewish Currents, 404Media, and Coyote Media Collective.
Thanks much. 404 Media is actually a for-profit, but the others will be considered.
